How do I identify my public water system?
Check the current water bill or property account, then match the provider and Public Water System ID in the Indiana IDEM Drinking Water Viewer or utility Consumer Confidence Report.
Does a city page apply to every address in that city?
No. Postal boundaries and utility service areas differ. Apartments, purchased-water zones, annexed neighborhoods, rural water, and private wells can change the applicable system.
What is a Consumer Confidence Report?
It is an annual report from a community public water system describing the source, detected contaminants, compliance information, and required educational material. It summarizes the system, not every building.
What did UCMR 5 test?
UCMR 5 required certain public systems to monitor for 29 PFAS compounds and lithium during 2023–2025. EPA released the final dataset in August 2026.
Does a non-detect mean a contaminant is absolutely absent?
No. It generally means the laboratory result was below the method-specific reporting threshold for that sample.
Can a water softener remove every contaminant?
No. A softener is primarily designed for hardness ion exchange. Other goals require separate evidence and model-specific treatment claims.
